As much as I love my animals, sometimes they are so infuriating!!! (Or should I say GUINESS!) I've said this before, but his personality is so different from Rusty's, especially comparing them as small puppies. Guiness rarely shows regret if he gets in trouble, whereas Rusty had the fear/guilt, and really still does. He minds much better.
Anyway, probably 6 weeks ago now, Guiness started chewing on the corner of the couch. We came home one day after work and there it was - destroyed. (It was actually his first day of puppy class - how ironic!) The experts tell you that when they are puppies, they live in the moment, so if you punish them, it's for what they are doing RIGHT NOW. Going on that logic, we don't punish him if we come home and find that's he's done something wrong. We are supposed to "catch him in the act." Well, when you're at work all day and can't catch him doing it, it's a little hard.
So last week, I came home and Jason was furious. I think you may understand why from the picture:
(I love that he had the audacity to pose in the picture!)
So our big dilemma now is: what to do? Yes, he could stay in his carrier for 9+ hours a day, but that seems a little over the top. Yes, we could put the dogs outside with a doghouse, but why punish Rusty for something he didn't do? (plus winter is coming) And I don't want to separate them during the day, either...
In other animal news, Sophie got a new "cat condo" about 2 weeks ago. She was unsure of it at first, but now she loves it. Jason built one for her that houses her food dish (so the dogs don't eat it) and he made a place for her bed to go where they can't jump up in her face and bark at her. Plus it's not quite as high of a jump anymore...she's getting older!

Wow, I don't know what to say. I think our dogs would have been punished regardless! Is there anyway to repair it? It looks really bad! Kind of funny he is just sitting there, like "hey guys, look what I did!"
I would have freaked out. When we first got Twinkie she would do stuff like that so when we got home and found it we would put her in her cage. She rarely does anything now but if she does she goes right to her cage when we come in. I think they remember longer than the experts say.
Oh man Trishie!!!! I was so furious everytime Dakota ate something, but we did (or didn't) do the same as you. We didn't punish him unless we caught him in the act. Not sure if you've heard of them, but they have those bitter sprays you can actually put on furniture so it will taste bad and your pet won't chew on it. They never worked for Dakota, but other people swear by them for their pets.
