Rusty Update

Last night we went and picked Rusty up from the vet hospital. He was FREAKING out the whole time Jason was trying to pay. An arm and a leg later, we left and took him home. Poor guy.. all he wanted to do was go outside and try to go poo. Unfortunately, that won't happen for him for a day or two, even though he tries. His incision and drainage tubes won't really allow it yet; it hasn't healed enough for him to be able to go. Can you imagine how uncomfortable that must be? So he spent most of the evening on the small dog bed downstairs with a towel covering him, shaking and whimpering. Then it was time for bed, which was later than usual cause Anthony napped most of the time we were dealing with Rusty.
Rusty can't fit in his crate with the cone on his head, so I had to pull his bed and blanket out. I got him all situated and was on the internet for a few minutes (which is FINALLY working at home again - yay!) and he wasn't having any of it. He ran down the stairs (which he's not supposed to do!!) to the first landing and just whimpered. Jason had just let him outside; we ended up calling the vet to see if there was anything we could give him to help him out, and that's when we were told he wouldn't go poo for a couple of days. So I put him back to bed and got in bed myself. He whimpered and moaned for a while; then Jason came to bed and I told him Rusty wouldn't calm down. So Jason got down on the floor with him and tried to get him to go to sleep. I don't know what time it was, but Jas eventually came back to bed and said Rusty was asleep.
Anthony woke up at 3:30, and when I got up, Rusty was lying by the bedroom door, so I had to put him back to bed again; he was pretty good the last couple of hours before we left for work. Poor little guy is gated off in the little area by our downstairs bathroom today, and Guiness is outside, since we have to keep them apart. So we'll take Rusty back in on Saturday to get the drainage tubes removed. I don't think he'll feel too good until then.
